Julio Vincent Gambuto recently earned his MFA in Film and Television Production from the USC School of Cinematic Arts. While at USC, he was the recipient of the Harold C. Lloyd Foundation Scholarship and the prestigious Annenberg Fellowship.
Prior to film school, Julio was a freelance marketing communications consultant, serving as Principal of the Javin Group, specializing in website and branding design and development. Javin worked closely with all types of clients, from solo entrepreneurs to large corporations like Time Warner and Arnold & Porter LLP.
Out of the Javin Group came a desire to help freelancers of all kinds avoid the classic pitfalls that pained Julio as he made his way as a freelancer. Freelance Heaven is his first e-book. It joins a collection of digital projects of Julio's that include Office Nerd, an online business writing course, and Story Hero, a storytelling workshop that Julio gives monthly in Los Angeles and New York.
Julio earned his BA cum laude in English and American Literature and Language from Harvard University, where he was a writer for Let's Go — the budget travel series — writing about his beloved Southern California. He currently resides in Los Angeles. Learn more about Julio at www.juliovincent.com.
Lisa McComsey (Contributor) • An award-winning copywriter, Lisa has worked on staff and as a freelance copywriter for publications like Vogue, People, Life, Real Simple, Vanity Fair, Bon Appétit, GQ, House & Garden, Brides, the New York Times, Every Day with Rachael Ray, and Dr. Oz The Good Life. She spent three years as copy director of Allure magazine and is a two-time recipient of the Time Inc. President’s Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Lisa cultivated a love for rice and beans while living in Costa Rica and Baja, Mexico during a three-year volunteer stint as an English teacher—giving her a taste of what was to come when she decided to go vegan in 2009. Following her “conversion,” she and longtime friend Amy Cramer co-authored The Vegan Cheat Sheet—a portable guide to plant-based eating, published by Penguin Books in 2013. Her second book with Amy, Seagan Eating: The Lure of a Healthy, Sustainable Seafood + Vegan Diet, will be released in July 2016.
An avid bicyclist and runner, Lisa has completed twenty-five marathons, several century rides, and a handful of triathlons. After growing up at the Jersey Shore and vowing “never to go back” once she graduated high school, Lisa attended Bucknell University and then moved to New York City and Latin America—before, yes, returning to her New Jersey roots. She now happily resides near the water, where she continues to write and work as a marketing consultant (lisamccomsey.com).
